Geurt van de Kerk and Lex van Alphen were both founding partners of the K+V group. K+V have completed numerous management assignments and research projects in the environmental sector. The company has always been involved in sustainable development. In an extensive study, Geurt van de Kerk has now developed an internationally applicable sustainable society index or IDS-2006. Sustainable development is a high-interest topic. No less than 96% of all survey respondents found sustainable development to be important. But it was impossible to formulate a satisfactory answer to the question of whether our society is sustainable or not. The sustainable society index or IDS (Index for a Durable Society), provides an at-a-glance indication of how sustainable society is in our country and in 149 other countries, and highlights areas where performance is satisfactory and areas that require urgent improvement.
The IDS index was calculated for the first time in 2006 and will be revised every 2 years. Both Dutch and foreign experts contributed to the development of the IDS index.
